Happy New Year !!!

Tuna is presenting itself as the best opportunity this week.  Prices have eased and supply is plentiful.   Contrary to Tuna, Sword supply has tightened, and driven prices up.  Although variety does exist, supply is generally light and pricing is on the high side of the spectrum.  Not much southern fluke around, so the Northern Day Boat Fluke is commanding a premium.  Cod, Wild Stripers, Snappers, and Grouper are all domestically caught and are still in rigor.   Halibut will continue to be tight, but the farm raised product is a great alternative.  We are in the thick of theMahiseason, and pricing reflects it.  Costa Rican fish are leading the market in quality.  Local dayboat production is light, as the boats were all in for Christmas, and we need the weather to cooperate a bit.  This will keep the production of local head fish available, but pricey.  Do not wait for the last minute to order for the holiday weekend.  Please call us with any questions or if you would like a price list  718-620-8600

“On The First Day of Christmas My True Love Bought for Me”

December 21, 2009 · Filed Under Market Report · Comment

“On the first day of Christmas my true love bought for me”…..A local Jumbo Black Sea Bass that was finally affordable.   We have only three market days left until Christmas, so lets get down to business.  Pricing for Local Fluke is at an all time low for Christmas.  Wild Stripershave disappeared because of quota, so we are recommending Day Boat Cod, or 4-8lb Florida Red Snapper.   Halibutremains extremely tight, but the Farm Raised Halibut is a great alternative.  We have an outstanding variety of quality Snappers, Yellow Tails, and Groupers from Mexico for our Retailers.  Big John’s Shellfish department is bragging some outstanding Sweet Neck Oysters from  Martha’s Vineyard.   ”The cold pristine waters of  Katama Bay”  creates a delightful briney experience finished with a delightful creamy after taste  ”capturing the essence of Martha’s Vineyard.”  We are the exclusive dealers for the Icy Blue PEIMussel in the market.   The Tuna market has finally eased in pricing to create some great values as well.  The Sword market has edged up a bit as a result of lighter supply.   Local head fish are available the first part of this week as the boats were all blown in from the storm, but we would anticipate a lighter supply as the week continues, so do not wait for the last minute.  718-620-8600

Its Beginning to look A Lot Like Christmas

“Its beginning to look a lot like Christmas”…Flounder Filletwill be at its lowest level in years for the Christmas holiday.  Regulating weather will allow our day boats to work.  Look for local, Fluke, John Dory, Whiting, Spanish Mackerel, Cod Fish, Skate,  and Monk.  Tuna prices are finally settling down to levels more reasonable than weeks past.  We have some outstanding Domestic short trip fish.  Swordfish continues to remain a value, both local and imported.   We are very excited about our new Brazilian shipper.  Yellow Tails, Doctor Fish, Groupers, and Snappersso colorful and alive, you would think you were at the Sea-Quarium, not the fish market.  Halibut and Black Bass remain very tight but are available.  Day boat Stripers, Day Boat Cod Fish, and Large Domestic Red Snapperare the steak fish of choice for this weekend.   Be sure to visit our website for the complete listing of shellfish and specialty items we handle.  Our day boat Nantucket Bay Scallops, and Northern Oysters will make you feel as if you were on the boats yourself.  We are the exclusive dealers in the market of the ICY BLUE PEI MUSSLE.   Call our office with any questions or if you would like a price list.  718-620-8600
